Dr Linda Beeney is best known as a specialist in Diabetes Psychology for her skills as a clinician, researcher & speaker.
Linda has a strong understanding of diabetes & a deep appreciation of the psychological burdens Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can place on individuals & families.
Linda has extensive experience working in diabetes care teams with well-respected clinicians in Australia & the USA, including at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Children’s Hospital at Westmead and RPAH.
Linda’s research program is focused on improving communication in diabetes care & improving the well-being of people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Linda’s expertise as a Health Psychologist covers the psychological side of a wide variety of medical illnesses, health problems & physical injuries. Linda works with individuals & their families living with cancer, lung & heart diseases, renal disease, multiple sclerosis & cystic fibrosis.
Linda also provides skilled & compassionate psychological care for individuals and families during the process of organ transplantation and palliative care.
Linda gained broad experience and training in health and medical psychology during her postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston based at Children’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute & the Brigham & Women’s Hospital - Lung and Heart Transplant Programs and Consultation Liaison Psychiatry.
Linda's Approach
Linda is recognized for her warmth, sense of humour & non-judgemental approach, as well as having a strong grasp of the emotional impact of medical illness.
Linda understands that emotional responses to medical crises are often best described as “the essentially healthy reactions of ordinary people struggling to master a novel and burdensome situation”.
Linda’s collaborative approach keeps patients actively involved & is tailored to individual needs, goals and circumstances. Linda draws on effective treatments including Medical Crisis Counseling, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness & Interpersonal Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Performance Psychology.
